Gohan had lost his mystic state and so after GT he trained a lot to re-awake it, but invane. Altough that as a SSj2 at the end he's stronger than as he was as mystic against Majin Buu... so in AF he was awoken as a ssj2, only afterwards he got the mystic-state back...
